Compose your courses, share them by link
OpenCartable brings together course writing, interactive modules and AI support — then puts all of it in your students' hands through a single link. They have no account to create.

Compose and organise your courses
Write, illustrate, file away. The course comes together in the order you teach it, and everything is saved as you type.
A course that follows your teaching
Put the course together in the order you teach it, and rearrange it when your plan changes.
Your documents with the course
PDFs, images, audio and video live in the course library and drop in wherever you want on the page. They travel with the course when you share it.
Filed by subject and level
Every course finds its place in the taxonomy: you find your way around, and your students find you.
An example course is waiting from your very first sign-in, so you never start from a blank page.
Illustrate your course effortlessly
Formulas, diagrams and figures are written as text and draw themselves. Nothing to install, nothing to export as an image.
Maths that stay maths
Your LaTeX formulas are typeset on screen and stay crisp in print, never flattened into a screenshot.
Diagrams described in one line
A flowchart or a sequence diagram is described as text, and draws itself.
Figures students can handle
GeoGebra constructions, JSXGraph figures, TikZ drawings: geometry becomes something to play with mid-course.
Help within reach
Every syntax has its documentation page inside the application, with examples you edit live.
Drop a web module into the course
A simulation, a drill, an animation: write it in HTML, CSS and JavaScript without leaving the application, and place it between two paragraphs.
Written and seen on the spot
Three editors and a live preview: the module comes to life while you write it.
Run with no risk
The module runs locked in, with no access to your data and none to the network: all it can do is display.
Reusable across the course
Every module joins the course library and drops in wherever you want, as many times as you need.
Share by link, with no student account
Your students open the link and get to work. No sign-up, no password, no list to keep at the start of the year.
Nothing to create, nothing to delete
The link carries the access: no identity to administer, in September or in June.
You stay in control
A link can be revoked and expires on its own, and every course stays draft, private or public as you choose.
A reading view made for them
Contents, resources, modules, full course: your students work through it block by block without getting lost.
Exercises done online
They write their answers in the browser; the model answers, meanwhile, never leave the server.
Sharing happens at course level: opening a course opens access to its whole library, and there is no file-by-file sharing.
Or let them find you
Public search is open to everyone without an account, by subject and by level. You only appear in the directory if you ask to be there.
An assistant that writes with you
The assistant reads the course you are writing, answers your questions and proposes rewrites. You are the one who decides, every time.
The AI proposes, you decide: no change is applied without your approval.
It knows your course
It reads your blocks, your PDFs, your images and your modules, and cites the passage each answer comes from.
It rewrites what you show it
A paragraph to clarify, an exercise question to reword, a module to fix: the proposal arrives ready to review.
Nothing irreversible
An accepted proposal is undone like any keystroke, with a Ctrl-Z.
The cost in plain sight
Every exchange shows what it consumed: no surprise at the end of the month.
The assistant does not replace your own proofreading, and it never edits a course on its own.
A tutor that marks your students
A signed-in student submits an answer and gets immediate feedback, question by question — with nothing for you to collect.
Immediate feedback
The tutor assesses the answer, says what works and what is missing, and sends the student back in without handing over the solution.
One thread per question
Every question keeps its own conversation: the student picks up where they left off, as many times as needed.
The answer at the right moment
The server decides when the model answer may be revealed — not the model, and not the student.
The tutor supports the student: it produces no marks and no report cards.
Your key, your model
OpenCartable imposes no AI provider — not even its own. You plug in yours, you switch, or you do without.
Supported providers
- Anthropic
- OpenAI
- Google Gemini
- Mistral, hosted in the European Union
- Ollama, on your own machine
- Hugging Face
- Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint
Nothing leaves your machine
With a model served by Ollama on your own machine, no course text ever goes to a third party.
Several models, one click
Keep one model for drafting and another for proofreading, and switch from the foot of the chat.
Your keys kept safe
They are stored encrypted and are never shown back to you.
Or nothing to set up
Without a key, the instance's default AI stays available, within a daily quota.
Host it yourself, keep your courses
OpenCartable installs with Docker Compose, right down to a Raspberry Pi. Your courses stay yours — and you can leave with them.
One command to start
Docker Compose brings up the application, the API and the database, on ARM64 as well as x86-64.
Your courses leave with you
A course exports to an archive and imports back, unchanged, into another instance.
A clean PDF in one print
Vector formulas and selectable text: the course prints without going through a converter.
No third party in the loop
No password kept, no font loaded from outside, no third-party service between your students and your courses.
Built for everyone
Bilingual interface, light and dark themes, contrast and keyboard navigation checked.
Free, under the AGPL v3
The code is published, and any instance put online must make its changes available.
What OpenCartable is not
A clear boundary beats a vague promise.
- No marks, no report cards, no averages.
- No messaging between teachers, students or families.
- No classroom management, no attendance, no timetable.
OpenCartable is a place where your courses are composed, kept alive and shared. The rest, your school's own information system already does.
